Where to begin... I am still not sure what the title has to do with anything. The writing is aimed at the older teen crowd but that is no excuse for poor editing,frequent tense changes(past to present, first person to third, etc)and juxtaposition of formal speech with phrases from current teen culture. There were some elements that seemed to move the story forward and develop the characters and then there were things thrown in the mix that had nothing to do with the story line and went nowhere. The book seemed to end before issues were resolved and left a lot hanging. Overall a strange read with some gratuitous sex and violence,but I think that the schizophrenic writing style and spelling mistakes (flea instead of flee for example) distracted me way too much and I could not get past them.In this story a group of young men set out to recover the young girls who were kidnapped from their village in the jungle two years ago. During this kidnapping raid, several older people,mostly men, were killed trying to save the girls from the shapeshifters who took the girls. It has taken two years for the teenage boys of the village to train with various types of weapons so that they can battle the beast-men who took the girls. Now they have eleven volunteers ready to go with slingshots, swords, bows, knives and axes. On the way deeper into the jungle to try to find the lair of the shapeshifters, they encounter various other beings such as fairies,ogres, dragons and carnivorous plants. Some of them are very friendly and helpful,some are not.
In the village of the shapeshifters,there are good, kind men and there are those who view the kidnapped women as glorified slaves. The women can only have children if they love their mates,so the clan is in danger of becoming extinct unless the good, kind men win out.
Spoiler alert:
With the help of a sleeping potion and some helpful fairies,the young adventurers manage to get all the women out of the shapeshifters village,along with the nicest of the shapeshifters. And there the story ends.
Unsatisfying. Heat factor mild, some gratuitous violence with sex .

I was given a copy of this book by one of the authors to give my honest opinion. I have to say that the story is full of unique characters. That I liked. But as another reviewer pointed out there were a lot of places in which the tense was wrong. I also had issue with the nature of incestuous relations so loosely tossed in. They were explained away but I didn't feel any better once the logistics of things were explained.
Overall, I feel like the book had a great few things going for it and with some editing and rewriting it could be a great story.

OK, let me begin with saying that cover?! That's what drew me to this authors book. It looked so mysterious, so tantalazing, and interesting.
The girl on the cover is just so bloody amazing, she is gorgeous and she makes me believe she has a deep dark secret, that I so badly want to know! and the beautiful background, the forest surrounding her was magical, and the planet enchanting.
What I loved about this book, was the characters, I mean the author has created her own planet with all these sub-human species and creatures. The story is so interesting I read this book in three hours. I just wanted to know what happens to Pavra and Romi. Their stories is what kept me going into the night reading, I needed to know what happened to them!
I love the writing, the only thing I didn't like in this book, was the tempo, sometimes it went extremly fast and kinda hard to keep up, but other than that, it was amazing, I fell in love with the planet, the story, the characters, I absolutely LOVE Terra's amagination, and her ability to write these people whom you cannot help but like and want to know more about. I hope there is another book.

I love fantasy books, it is my favourite genre, but this is the first NA fantasy I have read so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I really enjoyed it. At times it reminded me of a C. S. Lewis style fantasy book but with a much more mature feel. One section with trolls where the bad ones can only ever lie and good ones can only ever tell the truth seemed like it could be out of the Chronicles of Narnia (it isn't though). If it wasn't for some of the more sexual themes of this book it would be perfect for a YA audience, so if you love YA but wish it were a little more grown up this is a book for you.
The POV alternates between several different people and the time alternates between current time when the rescue is happening and what has happened to Pavra which spans the two years from when she was first taken to present time. Because of this, the book could have easily got confusing but in my opinion Terra manages to make it very clear what is going on and the alternating times worked very well.
I really liked the characters though as there were so many of them I hope that there is another book so we can see more of the ones we didn't get to find out much about. All the characters have their own interesting stories and developed personalities. My favourite was Bara who has spent 18 years pretending to be a boy so that she won't get taken and even though everyone now knows she is a girl it makes things somewhat awkward with the guy she likes. My other favourites were Romi, the seemingly ferocious beast who actually has a heart of gold and Janea, the mischievous fairy princess.
I found Avadonya to be enjoyable and unique and i think it is worth reading. The plot was good, the romances were suprisingly sweet and well written and as i have already mentioned the characters are brilliant. I am not sure if this is part of a series but i hope it is because i want to see more of this world.
This book is not as sexual as the synopsis might lead you to believe so don't let it scare you away. As long as you dont mind the occasional, not overly explicit sex scene you will be fine.
